AI is now doing makeovers…

As with many industries, the beauty world is blending AI and makeup to create a better experience for its glam customers. Since everyone has different skin tones and undertones, it can be a hassle to find the best shades of makeup.

But this South Korean brand has a unique solution – they’ve embraced AI to change how people can create and purchase makeup.

No more mismatched makeup…

The South Korean beauty group AmorePacific is trying to remove the hassle of picking out the right shade. They’re doing this by incorporating AI and using customizable lipstick manufacturing technology.

That’s right – soon enough, you could have a robot tell you which shade of lipstick to wear!

They’re calling it “Lip Factory by Color Tailor”. It tailors to its customers’ needs by allowing them to design and purchase their own lipstick shade that’s unique to them.

The technology used to create this is based on an “integrated online-offline manufacturing system that has an AI-based mobile application called Color Tailor.”

It works by analyzing a person’s facial features and complexion to recommend a suitable lip shade.

While the tech idea is fascinating, its most notable feature is that it operates as an on-site dispensary system where it can produce the recommended lipstick almost immediately. Currently, it can produce over 2,000 lip shades.

The Lip Factory is to be set up mainly in salons, beauty retailers, or other beauty venues.

Once the algorithm is more advanced, they hope to give more people access to this technology with a wider roll-out.

With more people shopping online, it can be hard to perfectly match a shade. But with conveniently placed dispensaries, people can find their custom shade and receive it immediately.

And the beauty world is taking notice… Even though it only launched last August, the system has already won the CES Innovation Award at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

There’s no stopping custom tech!

Customization has been an explosive trend in the last few years. It allows businesses to avoid expensive factories, cut down on manufacturing costs, and reduce waste. This allows businesses (especially startups) to focus on rolling out items that people are asking for – rather than hoping inventory will sell as they expect.

New technologies, such as 3D-printing and robotized manufacturing platforms like the Lip Factory, are promoting the switch to customizable goods for their users.

So, do you think customization is the way of the future? Should more companies be adopting on-site dispensaries to remain relevant?
